Globe Postpaid

I finally have a post-paid mobile number, but I have to say, the experience was less than charming. In the end though, throwing some weight around fixed some problems (permanently, I hope).

On September 19, I applied for my post-paid line at the Globe website (the plan I availed was the P299 line + P599 unlimited call/text to Globe or TM). The company emailed me, and said that my SIM card would be ready within twenty-four hours. True enough, they delivered on this promise (it was delivered to my doorstep), and by the evening of September 20 (when I was out of town for work) I was making phone calls and sending out my usual ungodly amount of text messages. I was on unfamiliar territory, having a line and all, so the next day, I called Customer Service, just to check if I was being billed for my usage. The answer was "No".

The next week, on the 27th, saw Typhoon Pedring make landfall. Rains were heavy, winds were wild, and my line was cut. Yes; in the middle of a natural calamity, my means of communication to the outside world was taken away. Why? Because apparently, I have not been on any unlimited call/text service - note, one which I paid in advance for. For the next three days, until yesterday, I spoke with customer service a total of fourteen (14) times, a ridiculous amount of "helpful and eager" assistants.

And NONE of them looked like this.
Here were my three problems with Globe post-paid.
  1. My P299 plan with the add-on of P599 totals at P898. My line was cut because I went over my credit limit (more on that later) of P600. If the system automatically cuts lines that go over a credit limit, then why was my initial application for the line (which amounted to P898, mind you) approved in the first place?
  2. My credit limit was set at P600, a limit when an applicant's monthly salary is P10,000 or less. Since I was not earning that amount at all, where did they pull that number out from?
  3. Why did my requests for information, customer support, and assistance reach fourteen instances? Shouldn't any number more than one be too many, and thus reflect gross incompetence in their customer service department?
How about UNLIMATH to 8888?

Anyway, at my wits' end (and a little beyond), I emailed Globe's president.

I receive a call from the office of the president and guess what? Globe will fix everything. Currently, my credit limit has been increased in reflection and in parallel to my actual salary, and my unlimited call/text package has been activated. The company has also promised me that they will investigate the customer service issue.

Moral of the story:
Sometimes, you gotta go all the way.

Tone Down; God Hears Y'all

First of all, I have NOTHING against bible study gatherings in residential areas; heck I used to lead youth groups just a few years back. A bible study gathering - complete with a few songs and yummy snacks - is one of the most enjoyable things I used to join.

However...

When in a RESIDENTIAL AREA with a population density of about a hundred households per street (this is sub-urban Manila after all) please, for the love of all that is worthy of worshiping, do not shout, scream, yell, or belt your heart out.

On a microphone, no less.

Windows closed. Door closed. Five storeys up.

I STILL HEAR YOU LOUD AND CLEAR!!

GRR.

"I will be still, and know You are God."
- The bible, on silent moments.

Cobain 100 - 0 Bieber

I don't know who Justin Bieber thinks he is, but he definitely crossed the line for me when he supposedly compared himself with one of the world's greatest rock icons - and a personal musical hero of mine - Kurt Cobain of Nirvana.

First and foremost, if you have never heard of the band Nirvana, kindly open another tab on your browser, go to YouTube, and search for Nirvana songs. Must have gotten humid under that rock, ey?

"I feel like the Kurt Cobain of my generation, but people just don't understand me."
- Justin Bieber

Justin Bieber was born on the year that Kurt Cobain took his own life. He is as old as Kurt has been dead, and yet Nirvana songs still play on radios and are still downloaded and bought up to now - almost seventeen years since. With all due respect, Justin Bieber, you have absolutely no idea what you were talking about.

While Bieber may be one of the more popular (read: popular to screaming teenagers who have never listened to music on a cassette tape and whose lives would be ruined by the disappearance of the iPod) "musicians" right now, he needs to realize that there is no way he can ever say that he thinks "he is the Kurt Cobain of his generation". Cobain made a cultural and social impact to youth society in the mid-1990s, pioneered a movement we now know as grunge, outranked Elvis Presley in 2006 as the highest earning deceased artist, and left an iconic legacy that will be remembered decades from now. Bieber's contribution to society is his high-pitched voice waiting to break. Plus his mismatched lyrics to his apparent personality. So Mr. Bieber is either completely ignorant, or his ego is larger than the asteroid that him on the head.

In conclusion, Justin Bieber is already ragged on by many, many bloggers and online forums; statements as ill-informed as this latest gaffe will do him no favors. Remember Justin, do not bloody touch legends.

I should have read this article months ago.
Now I'm suffering from "late-rage" LOL.

Blame Game

When one has a choice, then one is fully accountable for one's actions.

There is no use looking 'out' of ourselves and pinning the blame - directly or indirectly - to anyone else. There are times when we simply must 'put up, or shut up'.

Enough said.

Stop It, Seriously

The art of krump is culturally significant to many people in the United States, and spiritually significant for many more krumpers around the world. It's a sacred dance, to an extent, and its traditions and methods must be respected.

Seeing respected commercial dancers and celebrities "attempt" to perform the art of krump on noon-time shows is pretty disgusting. The elements? Gone out the window. The foundations? None whatsoever. Character? Forget about it. *sigh*

What saddens me, as a krumper and a lover of the krump culture, is that people I meet have this wrong idea of krump because of what they see on television. The perception that it's "all anger and violence" is highly unfair and unjust to a bona fide art.

This must be corrected, for the sake of a beautiful culture and art form.

The Rats Are Out

Formspring, that new "social networking" website, is, upon analysis of its function, form, and usage, is a tool for cowards.

Anything that allows an insane amount of anonymity over the Internet in order to pry information from another person is nothing short of cowardice and is subject to the malicious intention of many people seeking to hide using Formspring's anonymous function.

I'm glad I don't have one.
Why should I tolerate sensationalist cowards?

Life Rule:
If you cannot tell something to a person face-to-face, it's probably not worth saying, or one has malice intended or guilt hidden.

So say or ask what you need personally. Every human being deserves that much.

Move Aside, Facebook Freaks

I am in my university library's Cybernook now.

I am supposed to be writing up sources and references for our thesis paper's first chapter, and I had to line up rather long to get access to a computer.

Why?

Because there are a lot of unsympathetic and selfish idiots who feel it is their God-given right to use the campus facilities for Facebook games which - may I remind every university student in the world - are supposedly mainly for academic purposes.

I agree, not specifically for academic purposes, but if there are people lining up, holding books, research materials, and USB drives, kindly understand that these people are actually making use of their tuition payments to be productive.

I say ban Facebook on the campus computers.
This post has taken approximately 3 minutes to type, and there are four empty computer terminals around, so I am not shooting myself in the foot. :P

Math for Dummies

I really am beginning to have these horrible, judgmental thoughts on some of my classmates. I know it's so wrong to look at them and the first thing I think is "idiot", but seriously, you cannot help but think so.

Setting:
American Government class
Actors:
Bro. Wright, FSC, PhD; Mario* the Moron

Bro. Wright: There are 435 members of the House of the Representatives, and 100 members of the Senate. Mario, how many members does the Congress have in total?
Mario: *awkward silence*
Bro. Wright: *sighs* Never mind.

A few minutes later..

Bro. Wright: If a Senator gets 51% of the votes, he wins a 'majority'. What percentage of the votes did he not win, Mario?
Mario: Um, sir.. *smiles stupidly*

Oh good heavens shoot me now.

*Name has been changed to protect the moron from death squads.

Attack of the Morons

I know, I know.. I should not be so judgmental, and I should always see the best in people. I know I should. And I do, for a GREAT majority of the time, but there are times when I really wonder what sort of idiots I get as classmates. It's so bad, it's ridiculous.

Take for instance my classmate in three major classes, Mr. Beard*. He barely comes to classes, and when he does, he just sits at the back talking and talking and talking. More than a few times this term was he called out by the professor and reprimanded verbally, but I suppose nothing gets past his 3-inch skull. During American Government class, our professor, Bro. Gregory Wright, FSC, PhD (yes, he has a lot more letters after those), explained what an 'adversarial media' was. He calls Mr. Beard five minutes later to repeat what he said.

He stared at Bro. Greg like he was just born.

Come on! Seriously?? How do you idiots survive our major subjects?? I am astonished to see you people get 1.0s! (1.0 is the barely made it grade)

I don't mind that these guys are idiots, or are too damn lazy for their own good. What I am bothered about is that the professors take so much time to explain again the simplest crap over and over again, just so these monkeys can pretend they understood the lesson. They don't even come for quizzes. And the coming in and out of class is very distracting. I think bathroom breaks should be limited to one per three hours when it comes to these people. How much urine can a human body produce in an hour?? Jeez!

Okay. That felt good going out.

And to you people in another class:
Being nice to a professor does not mean I am sucking up to them. I do not NEED to suck up to anyone to get the grades I get. It simply means I can be actually civil to my professors. There are no laws stipulating otherwise, so until then, STFU in class, GTFO of my life, MYOB always, and GFY. :) Remember, I said these while smiling.

Right, And You Are?

Hi readers, I apologize for having disappeared for a week. Paper work has really been getting at me.

Anyway, I have a story to tell.
This was during Danz Dish 4, right after our performance. We were sent to the eight floor of Yuchengco Auditorium, where the view was wanting, and some of us stayed there and watched a bit of the concert before going down. At the seventh floor, where the main auditorium is located, I met up with the rest of Skittlez, and we decided to go inside using our guest passes to say hi to some of us who weren't able to dance. We went in, and looked for the others. Then IT happened.

A young man (I do not know if he will take that as a compliment, because he's gay) went around asking each of us in the most arrogant voice, "Are you in Skittlez? Because you are not allowed here in seventh floor. Please leave." Okaaaaay. We said we were performers, but apparently, since "we were Skittlez" we had to leave the seventh floor auditorium.

We gather outside (there's a lobby of sorts right outside the auditorium door) and discuss what had just happened. We all agreed on one thing: he was unnecessarily rude and arrogant. He managed to piss off not only the hottest tempered Skittle, but every single one of us! Then he made it worse.

He comes out, hands behind his back with that silly sing-song tone of a guy who has an ego larger than the Levy-Shoemaker asteroid, and asked us, "Is there a problem here?" Damn right, dude.

He confronts us, and a heated exchange between him and Ann ensued. Our point was very simple; he did NOT have to treat us like that. Why were all the other ushers so polite to us? We already performed for free, for Pete's sake. What really burst my patience bubble was when he asked if he was being 'bitchy' (in Tagalog he used the word mataray, and I don't know how to accurately translate that). It was bad because he asked it in the most arrogant way I have ever heard.

So I point a finger at him, and told him that it's about time he shut his mouth.

At this point, the whole crew was already seething. Even Decky, our daddy and usually the most composed, asked him to apologize already. Well, he sort of did, but even a blind rat could see the insincerity.

So Mr. Mack, of the La Salle Student Artist Managers, it is solely because of you that Skittlez Crew have turned down all and any request of dance performances for De La Salle University, including, unfortunately, the sponsored event this Friday. I hope you sleep well at night. Have a good time at work when you graduate.

Oh, and God bless you.

Dying On Me

It's very frustrating when one waits eight hours to load a movie, is moving a lot of pictures from memory card to hard drive, and typing a paper when the once-reliable laptop sputters and dies. Unceremoniously sputters and dies.

Very frustrating indeed.

Wake Up

When I am down and out, and I force a smile on myself, feeling sorry for myself inside, I think of the wonderful people who surround me, and the things I have accomplished in my 20 years, and I feel better already.

But not that much better.

It's just one of those days when I question myself, what's the use of having brains? What's the use of being so talented? What's the use of being able to do literally almost everything?

I see the most undeserving people get everything they want, when they should get exactly what they need.

Bitter Mode: On?

Utopia Mode: On
Everyone in my imaginary world is rewarded based on their knowledge, skills and talents, and character. Like that would ever happen. LOL.

Yeah, I feel better already.
But not that much better.

Suck it up, I tell myself. I'm tougher than this. Wipe your face, and tell yourself how far you've come, I say to the man in the mirror. He looks defeated tonight; I laugh. Wake up.

Wake up.

Wake up. Reality. Ouch; it just hit.

P.S. Looking forward to our one year tomorrow, babe. That should cheer me up lots.

Christmas?

It is, without a doubt, the emptiest, most meaningless, least practical, and most useless pagan tradition adopted by Christianity, and then commercialized by capitalism.

Then again, most 'traditions' have been commercialized.

Have a "Merry" Christmas, everyone.
After you've had your fun, have a good think where your lives are going.

And please stop re-telling the lie Christmas has become to your children. How about you teach them basic work ethics, manners, and good values instead? Do the planet a favor, leeches.

After making a birthday party for you, the first thing you say when you see my laptop screen is "Why is she so ugly?"? Thanks for the gratitude. Get over it.

What a piece of hardcore bullsh*t.

Benadryl Please! Allergic to Stupidity!

Did not have a very good week last week in school. Lost my temper quite a bit. Not because of the heavy reading materials, or the long photocopying lines, or the long library queues, not even the bad food and crazy hot weather. Oh no. Those I can stomach.

I am talking about people.
Specifically, dumb people.

Seriously, I do NOT understand how some of the people in my classes (MAJORS classes, mind you) even get in the majors program and courses. I have no freaking idea. The IQ of several of these individuals must be having a hard time reaching triple digits. It's that bad. And no, I am not exaggerating.

--------------------

Exhibit A
Majors class. "American Economy", a very important course for International Studies scholars. Professor was expounding on different economic institutions, and a part touched on industries. Specifically infant industries. She then asked what this meant. A guy sitting at the very front vigorously raised his hand up.

"Miss, an infant industry is an industry that focuses on producing baby products."

HOLY F*CKING COW.
You have GOT to shoot me right the eff now.

--------------------

Exhibit B
Majors class. "American Economy" once again. Professor asked several groups to present a 10-minute Powerpoint presentation on different major corporations, specifically talking about their histories, contributions to the American economy, and where these companies are heading.

Presentation on Boeing Airlines, quotes:
"The Boeing airline was founded by William Boeing from 1916 to 1829."
"The Concorde, which surpassed the Boeing 747 in terms of speed and capacity..."

Was that bad enough?
Let me shatter your world.

Their presentation's first informative slide had over 100 words. Oh I stopped counting at 30, about a quarter into the SLIDE. The rest of the slides had 60-80 words each. This is supposed to be a majors presentation?? Give me a break!

The presentation (finally, hallelujah!) ended, and the professor asked several questions, chief among which inquired why the last member did not speak during the presentation. They said he did the most research. Okay, very well then. So the professor asked him what would be Boeing doing, in his opinion, in the near future.

Awkward silence for five minutes.

I thought this idiot did the research! Dio mio! Shoot me right the eff now!

He should have said, "Making bloody airplanes, duh."

--------------------

Exhibit C
All my classes. Classmates, please stop answering a question with the following formats. I will laugh and ridicule you in my head. And some of you, I have already given the evil eye.

"Um.. Could it be [x], miss?"
"Sir, I'll just try okay? I'm not sure. I think it's [x]."
"Ma'am, I'm not really sure."
"*silence*"
"*looks down at notes*"
"Ah.. Well.. Could you repeat the question?"
"What's that again?"
"Huh?"

Get a freaking clue, idiots! You'll just try? Take a bloody risk! You're not going to get shot if you answer wrong! The biggest losers are the ones who are so scared of being wrong, they're never getting a chance to get anything right. Take a risk. If you're wrong, at least you know what's NOT the answer. DUH! And stalling for time hastens your bad image to the professor.

--------------------

Exhibit D
This just annoys me.
Pages and pages of notes full of highlighted lines in colorful ink. That's it.

It's all fine and dandy if you highlight. It proves you've been at the page. Did you read it? Did you understand it? I doubt it, because myself, among the others who do NOT highlight, but instead WRITE NOTES, are the ones you idiots are asking the answers from.

Write your own notes for Pete's sake. Writing "the allegiance of elite social organizations to the liberalist theory serves as a negative influence to the functions of said elite social organization" does not impress me. Not one bit. You copied it from the reading material, silly. What about making life simple and write (these are notes, not a thesis essay) "businesses don't do well when they follow liberalist theories". That impresses me. You can get the gist of a 200-word paragraph and fit it into words you understand.

Write notes. Save highlighters. Pens are cheaper too.
Plus you all wouldn't look so dumb.

--------------------

Exhibit E
Someone, anyone, beat the living hell out of anyone who suggests to someone to drop a class because it's too difficult.

Losers. Stop whining. Pick up the effing book and read.

--------------------

Ugh. That was a good rant.
I'll go fix myself some chicken soup. Yum.

Philippines, Where Did Your Intellect Go?

At first I though it was me, but really, after more than a year in this country (Philippines, in case you didn't know), I am more than a little bit disappointed with the intellectual capabilities of the local Juan (or in American, the local John Doe). Seriously. I'm disappointed.

From simple decision-making skills, to seemingly basic choices, I wonder what is the sort of kindergarten and primary school system this country gives to its citizens. The typical neighborhood dude (in my area, for instance) simply cannot cannot make the simplest of intellectual leaps, probably because they never question anything. When I say anything, it's anything.

Case in point. I was talking to a neighborhood girl who sells me candy on most mornings. She sees me in my silly tight sleeveless training shirt, and asks where I am going. I say I'm heading to the gym. She says, "no wonder you're not that tall". Er..? I'm 20 years old, miss. I started doing weights seriously just about 2 months ago, and since when did gym = vertically challenged? Anyway, I replied that no, gym has nothing to do with height, especially at this age, and that height is basically genetics. She goes yeah, sure, up to whatever you believe. LOL. I can only shake my head.

Here's another laughable logic that I have noticed here. It is when parents or older members of a given family uses two words to explain to their children or younger ones why an action should not be done, like stealing or lying. "Masama yun." It literally means, "it's not good". Er..? Could you please try and give whoever you are trying to teach a little bit more of a logical explanation? Why can't I skip school? Masama yun. Why can't I watch this show? Masama yun. Why can't I miss church? Masama yun. Well thank you for not letting your children and others hear a bit more logic in your arguments. And as for those listening to these stupid answer, please, for the love of all that is holy, question why. No, I am not invoking civil unrest, but really, no good questions equals no good answers equals a backward and ridiculously apathetic society, which is beautiful motherland, Philippines.

Oh and another one, as this post turns into a rant thread. I just cannot understand the average Filipino's fixation on game shows. They're everywhere! I don't get it, seriously. I mean, here you are, sitting in your sparse little kitchen wondering how to get more money, and you switch on the telly and you see an average person just like you winning a few thousand pesos, and you go, oh my, how lucky they are. When you see someone win a million pesos, you go, oh my how very lucky they are! In Tagalog, of course, but you get my point. Er.. Here's the point. Watching people make money in a seemingly lucky way makes everyone who watches this religiously become poor. Why? Simple. These silly game shows breed a nation of dreamers and hopers, a society that wants nothing more than to 'strike it lucky' so 'they can spend it all in one day'. No exaggeration. Here's a REAL conversation I had with a relative.

"If you won the lottery, what would you do with all the money?"
"I would pay all my debts, and give the rest to my family members."

Sounds like a good answer? Wrong! Na-ah! First, that money you won in the scenario will go up in smoke in no time if you just used it to appease your family members. Come on Filipinos. Let's cut the crap already. Helping family who do not help themselves does no one any good. Ever. You know what helps? Using that amount as a capital for a business, or to invest it in companies that make a good deal of revenue. Heck, if I had that much, first thing I'll do is buy stocks from San Miguel. Beer never goes out of business in the Philippines. LOL. Then, passive income rolls in. I think the reason so many people here are so poor no matter how much they make (legally or illegally) is because they have this weird mindset that getting family members to waste money is productive for one's own business. *sigh* The things people do.

Watching a video in class of poor people, one thing struck me. All of these dirt-poor families have a lot of children. In fact, their common denominator seems to be poverty and a ghastly amount of children. Really strange. I would have thought that it takes the mental capacity of a dog to equate more mouths to feed equals to more money needed. Money that does not exist. In the video, a family of nine members live on 30 pesos a day. They are ridiculously malnourished. I stress on the 'ridiculous'. The 14-year old son weighs 12.3 kilograms. TWELVE. Holy crap. Out of the nine kids, 3 will definitely die in a year, and all the rest will die within three. The defense used by the idiots who justify this is that more kids mean more help for mom and pop. Er..? You stupid people. The kids are effing sick! They are literally shaking hands with the ferry-man of hell, that's how ill they are. They do nothing but moan and wiggle a bit sometimes, that's how dead they are. And when they are active, they get weak in a few minutes. What help can they give..? Come on people! A little common sense here please!

Ranting never felt so good. :)

"Up-Rock" This

Don't hate; appreciate.

Maybe you guys should really heed that advice. From one dancer to another. You probably don't all feel like you're the best crew there is, but certainly some members do.

We've got nothing against that. Skittlez policy has always been to appreciate dancing, dancers, crews, and cyphers. We understand that there are different styles, and different techniques. We understand that each and every crew has their own 'thing', and that each crew has their own pride and respect to keep..

But don't EVER act high and mighty around MY crew members.
Don't EVER flash your crew name at us, because frankly, no one knows your stupid 'up-rocking' crew.
Heck, you guys probably can't even up-rock.

Suck on that.

I don't care if you have hotshot choreographers teaching you.
I don't care that you were former REMIX champions.

You guys beating Skittlez by 0.4% in a school competition does NOT entitle you to act high and mighty. In fact, you should all be worried. You guys had hired choreographers, while we make our own moves.

Suck on that.

When you guys are ready to follow your mouth with your dancing, the Yuchengco Lobby or the Jaipur dance floor is always open.

Just remember one thing:

We've got everything.

Suck on that.

No Place for Gadgets

I am just really annoyed with people in the LRT.
Specifically, those who feel like they need to show what they have.
Who cares about what they have?
Well, probably some people do.

I especially get ticked off by those who do not switch their phones to silent when they go out. Personally, my phone never rings unless I am at home, and that is also quite rare. The vibrate function is there for a reason, people! Common etiquette! What's the worst of the lot? Easily the following:

- Using a full song for a message tone.
- Letting the bloody song play until end.
- Loud alert tones.
- Waiting for the tones to end before picking up.
- Talking SO loudly about rubbish.
- Shouting on the phone.
- Choosing annoying songs as alert tones.
- Those bloody monotone alerts.

Seriously, it does not take a person 3 bloody minutes to check if you do not recognize the number. If you recognize the number, answer it, and talk discreetly. If you don't, then don't bloody pick it up! Why must you wait 2-3 minutes, looking at your phone's screen, and wondering who it is? And what's the big idea with choosing stupid melo-dramatic songs as your tones? It just makes no sense! I mean, the tones are there to alert of an incoming call or text, because presumably, you are waiting for an important one. But if you're going to let everyone hear the excruciating sounds out of your phone, then you, my dear inconsiderate traveler on the public transport system, needs to stay at home.

This one gets on my nerves too. Why do people think it's perfectly acceptable to cam-whore in a crowded LRT car? As anyone from any city would tell you, LRT cars, when full, do not have enough luxury space. You are supposed to sit/stand at your place, and avoid bumping into people and being a general dork. Tell that to the stupid girls who take out their pathetic Nokia phones and start cam-whoring in a crowded LRT car! During rush hours, Manila's LRT cars are literally over-flowing, and the last thing anyone needs is a pair of giggling girls doing 'kawai' poses and bumping people as they try to hold their phones at a distance. Seriously, we need to make laws against these.

Oh and how about those PSP buggers? Yeah, we understand. You're thirty years old, and your parents never bought you a Sega Genesis, so you buy a Sony PSP and play it on maximum volume in an LRT car. I got one thing to say to you: I hope it gets stolen. Yeah, you have a cool gadget, but you don't need to flaunt it! Hasn't anyone learned yet that you should never show expensive electronics in a public transport? Dumb-ass.

Last and worst of the lot. Experiencing this, I had the hardest time controlling myself from walking over and smashing their gadget. Ladies and gentlemen, in an LRT car, two women brought a portable DVD player with plug-in speakers. And guess what? They played some Chinese drama (Meteor Garden) inside the LRT, with the sounds on full volume. *grr* You should see the faces of the other people in the LRT car. Hello! Newsflash! Meteor Garden is SO 2001! You want to appear cool, then watch Heroes or Lost but I suppose we can't help double-digit IQ citizens. I knew a lot of people love to show-off, but this one takes it to another level. It's so ridiculous it's not even funny. I might end up ranting for another hour, so I'll stop now.

Sometimes, I am just so euphoric when the LRT car's doors slide open and I escape the idiocy of some of the people who use the public transport.

If only it wasn't so darn convenient.
