Moving Up!

Moved up at work :)

It's only been a few months and now, I have far more responsibilities at work. It's really flattering (with pressure!) that the boss is showing a lot of faith in me and my abilities. Instead of simply being a writer and researcher for the university, I am now the Executive Assistant of the University President, as well as the Coordinator for Presidential Affairs in three La Salle universities/colleges (DLSU, DLSAU, and DLSC). God is being very very good to me :)

Here's to the future!

The Office Invader

If you are not fond of little, furry creatures, kindly skip this post.

A couple of days ago, I was in the office kitchen making some tea (that just sounded so right) when I noticed a little piece of paper sticking out from under the refrigerator. It was bright yellow and looked awfully familiar. It was familiar because over three years ago, this exact same thing happened already.

A poor little mouse, traipsing along, did not see it was already heading towards a flat piece of sticky-death. It's the Attack of the Paper, Vol. 2.

Sucks to be you, Mickey

Gave it to the janitor a few minutes later and told him to dispose of the little fella as humanely as possible. No flushing, stomping, or burning. I don't know how he did it.

Back to my tea.

Working Calories

Board Meetings and Council Meetings both have something in common.

They make me gain weight.

The food is just so darn good.

Hi, I'm Tom

Scribes from Ancient Egypt, I'm feeling you guys. LOL

Hi, I'm Tom. That's T-O-M, or The Office Man :P

Board meetings with the big fish..

Trying to stay awake when the paperwork stacks up..

Finding a "hidden joke" in the smallest little thing..

Attending ceremonies..

Then having pre-packaged lunch..

It's a good thing I have gym, Skittlez, and PJ to go back to after all that. Work is fun, and sometimes really challenging, but it's nice to know I'm experiencing the working world with my feet planted on the ground and friends around to help me escape and relax :)

Life is.. pretty good :)

SCC Board Meeting - Cebu

I had my first out-of-town business trip ever yesterday. Destination: Cebu City, a place that I've been wanting to go to for the longest time.

Departure, around 0645 hrs.

Welcome to Cebu!

Maxwell Hotel room.

Had some downtime since we arrived at the hotel around 0930 hrs; slept off my allergy medicine until about 1120 hrs then went down for lunch. Lunch was really awesome, and I had a huge heaping slab of back ribs, while the boss opted for some traditional pork adobo.

Rested after lunch, then took a quick shower in the hotel room. Around 1430 hrs, we were picked up by Mr. M. Go, Board Member of the SCC Board of Trustees. I think he's got a really cool job; apart from being a college board of trustees member, he also owns a trucking company and banks. What a combination haha. We arrived at the Cebu City Sports Club, a private club in the middle of the metro. Then it was board meeting time!

Then we went around. Just passed by the SCC stand for the upcoming Sinulog Festival in Cebu, and the popular dried fish market, where I didn't take any pictures since we were busy picking dried fish to bring back. LOL.

Then at 1800 hrs, it was time to go back to the airport. The boss' flight was supposed to be at 1900 hrs, but the arrival of the airphilexpress plane one hour later than scheduled forced him to leave Cebu at 1945 hrs while my flight was supposedly at 2035 hrs. I was still having dinner around 2000 hrs when I heard my name on the P.A.! Apparently, we were leaving way ahead of schedule (I used Philippine Airlines). I was the last one in my plane. How embarrassing :(

Well anyway, back to the office tomorrow, and that means reports and paperwork on the trip but it's all good. The experience was great, and I sure could get used to these sort of trips :D

Office of the President and Chancellor - The Christmas Party

We may be one of the busiest and one of the most important offices in De La Salle University Manila, but we also know how celebrate and have a good time. First, we have to make sure that the rest of the campus know that we are.. Well, "busy" :)

So yes, we were busy. Busy stuffing ourselves with awesome Filipino food. We had adobo, kare kare (seriously becoming my favorite Filipino dish), steamed and stuffed fish, and the almighty lechon baboy. Here we go!

We then ate and the Chief of Staff, Sir Roj, and myself created some games for the other staffers. The two big bosses, Brother President Jun and Brother Chancellor Ricky, were really good sports and played the games with as much gusto as anyone.

Finally, we exchanged gifts with each other. It was really fun, since we had code names and didn't know who would be getting our gifts. We were just given a wish list the week before, and we picked one out of the three written. I asked for a bookstore gift certificate, and I received one from Powerbooks (I'm going to be a big customer one of these days, what with all the GCs I've been getting!) from Mdm. Marivic. I drew Mdm. Marife, and I got her a Bagabons shoulder bag.

Very fun and food-packed Christmas party :) I really enjoy working here, and I just have this feeling I'm going to be enjoying my entire stay at the OPC. Merry Christmas!

Minutes

Mentally tired. Two board meetings in four hours with no breaks in between. At least the working lunch was very good :)

Pardo Golden Wedding Anniversary

Attended the Immaculate Conception of Mary private mass at the St. Marie Eugenie Chapel in Assumption College, San Lorenzo, Makati for the Office last night. It was the 50th wedding anniversary of former Cabinet Member Jose Pardo and his very humble and demure wife. He also happens to be a Lasallian, which would explain my Office's presence in the mass.

I also met former President Joseph Estrada for the first time. He cracks good jokes. I like him.

After the mass, we were brought to Hotel Celeste just outside of San Lorenzo Village, Makati, for a simple dinner. It was a simple 6-course French dinner, and I took some pictures of the food to blog on here. The red was also delicious, but of course, professionalism dictated I had no more than two glasses. I work for the religious Brothers, after all. I forgot to take a picture of the first one, the asparagus soup in a shot glass.

Squash soup

Steamed egg with vegetable sprouts

Roasted prawn in mashed potatoes and pesto paste

Red snapper on vegetable puree

Caramel pastry

Pretty good dinner, and even better company.

Congratulations on your Golden Wedding Anniversary, Secretary Pardo, and thank you for the delicious dinner.

Lovin' The Job

I'm building quite the impressive portfolio of written work now.

It is not often that a person can do something that he/she loves and get paid doing it. It's not a dream job as yet, but I certainly enjoy it.

Green at heart <3
