Recorded my first time trial for the 5k earlier this afternoon.
5000 meters in 33 minutes and 8 seconds.
Definitely getting faster, and I think I can hit 30 minutes just be dropping another couple of pounds. Shouldn't be too hard, but of course, the temptations of food are always around. :)
P.S. Who wants to sponsor me a new pair of running shoes? :P
When: April 11, 2010 Where: Fort Bonifacio, Taguig, Philippines Events: 5k, 10k, 15k Registration: Any Mizuno Outlet, up to April 4, 2010. Entry: PHP400 (5k, 10k) and PHP450 (15k)
This also happens to be my first race. :D I'm pretty excited! I'll be competing in the 5k race. Going to be gunning for 30-35 minutes, a rather okay beginner's time I believe. See you there!
Okay my faithful readers, friends, and followers. You all know how I used to look around 2007/2008 right? Chubby, with a hint of bulk. That's right, 178lbs and a 36-inch waist that could use some trimming.
Around November 2009, I basically just decided to screw the chubby part, and go all out stripping it away from my body. What I got was a new physique that runs 5k in 35 minutes, does 60 push ups in 60 seconds, hold a plank for 90 seconds, and weighs 146.5lbs. That's right, plus the waist is now 31 inches. A little under 147lbs, welter weight for boxers I think.
I love being fit. I love being strong. This is me. New and improved. :)
I looked at my course flowchart and guess what, I have only 20 units left in De La Salle University - Manila.
I am currently doing my thesis this term (submission next week!) and I knew I had little time left in uni. I didn't expect it was just one last term.
Out of that 20 units, I will be doing 3 units during summer, for on-the-job training (OJT), to get experience before I dive in head first into the working world. That leaves 17 units, NO majors, and thus, a walk in the park. I even have two PE classes in my last term. Laughable, really.
So. Yeah. I'm going to graduate very soon. I can feel it. I can taste it. And one day this year, I'll be writing a blog post summarizing about three years of my life; the most important three years of my life at this point in time.
I am excited, but if I'm honest, a little scared as well.
So. My blog has been dead for almost a month now, and it has been mostly due to university priorities, not to mention my quite unstoppable addiction to fitness. Mid-terms just ended, and I'm glad to feel I did quite well in many of my subjects. :)
My 21.5 units certainly aren't helping me sleep better, that's for sure. Apart from the latter half of our thesis (which is due soon, I might add), my minor subjects are actually much more draining than the majors! It doesn't help that two of these minors are in Filipino, which I am not exactly very fluent in. Of course, survival in the subjects is pretty much guaranteed, but who doesn't want a 4.0 in minors? I certainly do.
On a happier note, I am finally below 150 lbs, and it's consistent! I tip the scales at 148 lbs, but of course, my target still remains set at 145. That's perfect welterweight size. Since I took up boxing about 4 months ago (Elorde Boxing Gym, I love you), I think of body weight in fight weight classes. HAHA.. Seriously though, it's a GREAT way to keep in shape, and carve all those cuts. :P
Being the academic manager of the university pep squad has proven to be a great and unexpected challenge for me this term. The sheer workload of one person (myself) monitoring an entire pep squad (over 40 members) drove me crazy the past month, but thank God for our Sports Academic advisor, Ms. Grace, and the always-ready-to-assist fellow academic managers, I am slowly but surely learning the ropes. It's great experience, one that I would never regret taking, although it does dent my social life quite a bit. Ahaha..
As for dancing with Skittlez, my time in De La Salle University - Manila is slowly coming to an end, along with my competitive eligibility with Skittlez. Due to some (rather stupid, foolish, and uninformed) possible rule changes, I might not even be able to compete this year. *sigh* Still, my heart is still in the crew, as it has always been for the past two and a half years.
My beloved De La Salle University - Manila's University Week, themed Animo Alive! comes to an end.. And Skittlez Crew, as the oldest and most recognized freelance dance crew in the university, performs yet again. :D
February 19, 2010. De La Salle University - Manila's Football Field.
It was a 'hot' Valentine's this year. The Saturday before the 14th, I stayed (as usual on weekends) at Julian's condo at EGI Taft Towers, right smack in the middle of the university. We were happily watching episodes of Man vs Wild when we heard some fireworks outside. We didn't really bother looking out.. Until we started seeing plumes of smoke outside the window. Julian's place is on the 22nd floor.
The street beside EGI, Castro Street (also the street where De La Salle University - Manila's varsity athletes are housed) had a fire; the construction-on-going building of Eton (that's the name of the developers I suppose). The fire was small at first, but it quickly raged. This was around 2230 hours. I ran down and checked out VSC (where a lot of my athlete friends stayed) and thank God they were being evacuated.
Around 0100 hours, power started going out along Taft Avenue. In the condo hangout gang, only Bea was missing, so I pick her up from Burgundy Transpacific (another condominium about three minutes from EGI Taft Towers). Power started going off again, and by now, there were about twenty firetrucks surrounding Castro Street.
At about 0200, we decided that the fires were looking pretty big, so we packed some overnight clothes (thankfully, this was all I had) and went to a place nearby and wait it out. Played some cards and ate a little. Around 0330 hours, the fires were under control and we went back to EGI. Rather exciting piece of action. I doubt anyone was hurt.
A few hours ago, De La Salle University - Manila started its annual University Week. This year it is themed "Animo Alive!", and to kick it off, there was a "La Salle's Got Talent" competition. My crew performed before the announcement of winners.
Enjoy! (I am wearing a vest, with a light green bandanna off my pants)
It's almost four years of Skittlez Crew now, and I have to say that every year, the family just keeps getting better and better, stronger and stronger, and sicker and sicker. :D
We've got a very deep crew now, and it's absolutely fun choreographing stunt sequences (which I didn't know my mind could conceptualize) when so many members are flippers and high-flyers. It's certainly a step away from the "various styles showcase" that Skittlez is known for.
This year (this coming University Week, first day of the event) we're going to introduce some new stuff. My isolations choreography, some reggae choreography by Nica, and of course, 35 seconds of stunt sequence. We WILL definitely have some video of course, but for now, enjoy the following videos of my boys and girls. :D
I'm proud and honored to lead this magnificent crew.
Congratulations to the DLSU Animo Squad for making it as one of the nine finalists from our regional qualifiers. Go get 'em in the finals!
